Accelerate your Smart Manufacturing Business Transformation with CESMII
CESMII, the U.S. Smart Manufacturing Institute, has a mission to improve productivity in the manufacturing ecosystem in the United States and we are inviting manufacturers to take advantage of a new set of tools and services. These tools are designed to be help small and medium manufacturers align the business strategy, technology-enabled practices, and establish or reassess an innovation roadmap that leads to higher levels of operational performance and customer service.
The process starts with a self-evaluation of business practices that can be taken online or in a workshop facilitated by a consultant in CESMII’s ecosystem of partners. The online assessment tool has several embedded links to short videos at the beginning to give you a short (<10 min) background before you dive into questions. You will be able to see the value and opportunities emerge in real time as you work through the survey and take the opportunity to take a step back and think about the future of your company.
It is important that any roadmap initiative be approached as a business imperative first and as a technology initiative second. Technology investments should always be justified in the context of a business strategy. The following are six areas of the business that will be assessed through 34 questions: (i) Strategy, (ii) Culture, (iii) Processes, (iv) Systems, (v) Workforce, and (vi) Supply Chain.
The use of the Business Practices Assessment tool is at no cost to you. We are hoping that you will embrace the opportunity and continue through the process outlined in the Acceleration Framework above with the help of a consultant and the tools CESMII has developed to help explore strategies and techniques through examples, evaluate the business benefits of different approaches, and establish a roadmap personalized to your business. You can bring your own consultant into the process or CESMII can help you find one that fits your business needs.
The answers you submit during the assessment remain private to your company and the consultants helping your company. CESMII is using some of this data to develop aggregate benchmarks and gage how the overall manufacturing ecosystem is making progress.
We encourage you to dive in and take the Business Practices Assessment as your starting point. At a minimum, you will come out with a better understanding of how you feel about your business practices, but you may also come out with some ideas of areas for improvement. You can take the assessment once, do a little more research on your business practices, and revisit the survey again. These tools are aids but you are the ultimate owner of your business transformation process.
