In this next installment of our Smart Manufacturing Mindset LinkedIn Live series, we’ll unpack the role of Smart Manufacturing practices and technologies in underpinning the core tenants of Lean, 6-Sigma, and Digital Manufacturing. We’ll explore how data-driven strategies are transforming manufacturing by enhancing the essential role of people in driving progress, and offer invaluable insights into striking the necessary balance between harnessing data and empowering your workforce to drive constant improvement.
Join us September 26th at 1:00PM EST to Think Differently about your SM Journey
We are excited to share what we believe is one of the major inflection points to drive Smart Manufacturing system adoption for the automotive industry (and beyond)!
In 2022, CESMII was hired by USCAR (GM, Ford and Stellantis) to work together on a pre-competitive strategy that would benefit the broader automotive industry with the creation of a next-gen Smart Manufacturing Roadmap for the automotive industry.
As an outcome of this process, last week, the senior executives from each of these three automakers joined us, along with over 150 leaders from the automotive industry (tier suppliers, machine builders, system integrators, software and hardware suppliers and consultants) for a private preview of this new Smart Manufacturing Roadmap. The vision and the roadmap were enthusiastically received, with a clear call to action for each of the stakeholder groups.
We look forward to the public launch of this important industry Roadmap at our Annual Member Meeting at SOUTHTEC – October 24-26 in Greenville, SC.
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras to collaborate with CESMII member 5G Technologies
With a key focus on conducting advanced research and development of Smart Manufacturing technologies for Small and Medium Manufacturers (SMM), IIT Madras’ Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre – AMTDC will collaborate with Fifth Generation Technologies.
The key outcome envisaged from this partnership is the development of AI and Machine Learning-based techniques to drive real-time optimization of different machining processes that could help lower operational costs and improve the overall efficiency.
The Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) has partnered with CESMII to develop certification standards for Smart Manufacturing in four key focus areas:
✔️ Smart manufacturing fundamentals
✔️ Data acquisition
✔️ Data analytics & visualization
✔️ Data transmission & cybersecurity
Now, industry experts are needed to validate these standards. This is an opportunity for your organization to have input on the skills and competencies needed for today’s smart manufacturing workforce.
Smart Manufacturing techniques are helping manufacturers achieve significant increases in productivity and competitiveness. However, the use of these SM technologies and techniques remains concentrated among industry leaders and specific industries due to several challenges that are holding up wide adoption. This article discusses strategies for addressing these challenges and achieving broad adoption in your company and supply chain.

Case Western Reserve’s Institute for Smart, Secure and Connected Systems (ISSACS), in collaboration with MAGNET, Manufacturing Works, and Team NEO’s Smart Manufacturing Cluster, are pleased to introduce northeast OH manufacturers to CESMII, the US’ national institute on Smart Manufacturing, and their tools for defining the role, fit, and value of advancing technologies in manufacturing.
Information Modeling Boosts Productivity for Electronics Manufacturers
The plug-and-play nature of the Ectron Smart EYETM implementation puts automation, Factory 4.0, and the IIoT within the reach of small manufacturers who don’t have IT and engineering teams.
Small and medium-sized manufacturers (SMMs) will be able to access and implement technologies that were previously only available to large manufacturing enterprises. Since small and medium-sized manufacturers comprise 98% of America’s industrial manufacturing base, technologies available to SMMs will greatly benefit the nation as a whole.
Potential to increase revenue at Ectron plant by $120k annually by improved productivity from implementing smart sensors and controls.
Potential to reduce energy costs by 8% annually at
Ectron plant by implementing smart manufacturing tools.
