Description

This digitally delivered certification course is designed to educate consultants, advisors, and innovation champions working with manufacturers on the CESMII Smart Manufacturing Acceleration Framework, the supporting toolkit, and prepare them to take the CESMII Certification exam. Supported by an expert mentor, you’ll engage with hands-on projects to assess a sample organization’s current and desired future states along six critical areas of world-class manufacturers. Your capstone will be to develop a strategic Smart Manufacturing Roadmap that encompasses all Acceleration Framework elements.

By completing the course projects, deliverables, and accompanying certification test, you will develop knowledge and capabilities to ensure your future client engagements are successful and your work is consistent with SM principles and the SM roadmap process developed by CESMII. The course was designed in collaboration with CESMII, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and NxGen Group.

Certification Process

Your certification will be obtained through a three-step process:

• Certification Step 1: Demonstrate competency through successful completion of the Smart Manufacturing Acceleration Roadmap Certification Course.
• Certification Step 2: Pass the Smart Manufacturing Acceleration Roadmap certifying test.
• Certification Step 3: Become a CESMII member (observer-level memberships are available at no cost)

Post-certification, you will receive access to a Professional Community of Practice and a shared repository for the roadmapping tools. Once certified, SM Roadmap Professionals remain valid for 3 years. Certification will automatically be renewed through continuous engagement with the SM Roadmap Professionals Community and continued activity in at least one experience-based criterion. Exemplary community members will assist in evolving the tools, share success stories (presenting work at conferences or member meetings), and help continue to democratize smart manufacturing practices.

Technology & Logistics

You will complete all coursework remotely through RPI’s digital classroom environment, with guidance and contextualized feedback from your mentor along the way. Synchronous sessions will be held via Zoom each week in the evenings, providing an opportunity to connect with your mentor and engage with the content in a live setting. The sessions will be recorded for those who cannot attend. In addition, your mentor will be available to provide one-on-one coaching throughout the course.

• CESMII’s Smart Manufacturing Acceleration Framework – Identify and prioritize high-value target areas, and ensure alignment across the organization and with other digital transformation initiatives to advance the goals of the overall manufacturing strategic plan.
• Explore – Increase client exposure to smart manufacturing, its impact, and why it matters.
• Assess – Establish the organization’s current capabilities and competitiveness, achieved through people, processes, and technology, using the CESMII Smart Manufacturing Business Practices assessment and resulting state transition matrix.
• Focus – Align the current state with a desired future state enabled by the smart manufacturing mindset and tools.
• Roadmap – Create a strategic (not tactical) roadmap in which business objectives are identified and the corresponding improvement areas and initiatives are articulated.

Audience & Prerequisites

To take this course and sit for the CESMII Certification exam, a minimum of 3 years of experience as a manufacturing consultant or 5 years leading integrated system implementations in a manufacturing organization is preferred.
