Manufacturing Information Modeling & Namespace Foundations Course™
Manufacturing Information Modeling & Namespace Foundations Course™
Course Dates: April 29 & 30, 2026
Manufacturers are under growing pressure to reduce the number of systems they manage while improving interoperability across operations. The result, too often, is increased complexity, higher integration costs, and fragile point-to-point connections.
CESMII addresses this challenge by standardizing how manufacturing data is defined and shared at the source through a clear, machine-readable data contract between systems. This data contract, known as an SM Profile, is a type of Information Model. It is a digital abstraction of real-world equipment that defines its structure, attributes, and relationships in a consistent, reusable way.
By standardizing data at the source, SM Profiles simplify system integration, reduce redundant engineering, enable plug-and-play interoperability, and support scalable deployment across production lines, plants, and enterprises. They form a practical foundation for Unified Namespace architectures and AI-ready manufacturing systems.
Course Overview
This 10–12 hour training is designed for professionals who want to understand, use, and build Information Models, with a specific focus on CESMII Smart Manufacturing Profiles. Participants will learn how information modeling enables interoperability, supports Unified Namespace strategies, and reduces data silos across manufacturing architectures.
Target Audience
System Integrators, OT and IT professionals, consultants, machine builders, subject matter experts, and technology providers who want to understand, extend, or build SM Profiles to improve system interoperability.
Prerequisites
Participants should have:
- A foundational understanding of Smart Manufacturing concepts and value
- The ability to articulate the high-level role of information modeling in Smart Manufacturing
- Experience working with manufacturing data, including definition, acquisition, interpretation, or visualization
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand, define, and create Information Models and SM Profiles
- Explain the core principles that make information modeling effective in manufacturing
- Work with and troubleshoot OPC UA types and specifications
- Implement an SM Profile using existing technologies
- Understand how CESMII Smart Manufacturing Imperatives enable application interoperability, reduce data silos and stovepipe architectures, and lower barriers to standardization
