MESA International and CESMII Announce New Partnership

Groups work together to expand access and understanding of Smart Manufacturing

CHANDLER, ARIZ., December 5, 2017:  In an effort to promote greater understanding of Smart Manufacturing (SM) technologies, the Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association (MESA) International and the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII) announce an agreement that will provide CESMII-member access to valuable education that MESA has developed.

MESA, a 26-year old industrial nonprofit, has long been recognized for generating peer-reviewed, non-commercial content aimed at sharing lessons learned and best practices in leveraging modern Information Technologies in manufacturing enterprises. MESA’s Smart Manufacturing Working Group formed in 2015 and is actively developing white papers, conducting research, blogging and cataloging Smart Manufacturing use cases.  The MESA Smart Manufacturing Working Group is a logical touch-point to CESMII moving forward to complement both groups’ efforts.

CESMII will house a subset of MESA’s online resources including white papers, research materials and case studies.  The information will help CESMII accomplish their goals of developing Smart Manufacturing which they define as the business, technology, infrastructure, and workforce practice of optimizing manufacturing through the use of engineered systems that integrate operational technologies and information technologies (OT/IT).

MESA’s assets are valuable to CESMII’s efforts to engage industry and make Smart Manufacturing a reality.  Mike Rinker, CESMII VP of Outreach, comments, “MESA is a great partner for CESMII because of their active support for Smart Manufacturing as well as leading discussions of both ‘How’ and ‘Why’ to use such technologies. We want CESMII members to understand those topics, so it makes sense to work closely with MESA and leverage our combined resources.”

The content-access license is just the first step in MESA’s efforts to help the industry learn about Smart Manufacturing. Mike Yost, MESA President, notes, “CESMII, and institutes like it, play a critical role on the technology front, which is an important part of the Smart Manufacturing journey.  But, it’s not the only important part.  MESA has spoken with the voice of industry’s practitioners for 2-½ decades, and our members have plenty to say about operational, organizational and cultural issues that are equally as daunting as any technology challenge. We plan to lend that voice and education as a strong complement to the great work CESMII is doing.”
