News from HQ - CESMII Appoints John Dyck as Chief Executive Officer

June 25, 2018

The Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII) and its Governance Board welcomes Mr. John Dyck as its CEO.  John will succeed Jim Wetzel, who has been acting as CESMII’s interim CEO since Fall 2017.

John comes to CESMII from Rockwell Automation (NYSE: ROK), where he was the Global Director of Software Business Development.  In this role, John helped drive the transformation of Rockwell Automation to a leadership position in software for manufacturing.  He was responsible for strategy development, and the acquisition and development of capabilities needed to transform their software portfolio. John developed and began the execution of a multi-year software acquisition strategy to shape Rockwell Automation’s software portfolio.  He was a key leader in shaping their Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) strategy and was responsible for their global Strategic Alliance with Microsoft (Nasdaq “MSFT” @microsoft).

Prior to his role at Rockwell Automation, John led the Product Management and Marketing teams for GE Fanuc (now GE Digital), (NYSE: GE) with responsibilities for the entire Production Management software portfolio (Proficy), including Workflow, Historian, Portal, Tracker, MES and many other software modules.  He developed close relationships with many large, key manufacturers.

Mr. Dyck played a key role in building a software startup in the Manufacturing Intelligence space. As Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development for ActivPlant, he was instrumental in raising over $20M in VC funding, and developed and implemented a successful sales and channel strategy, resulting in significant revenue growth.

In addition to his manufacturing software and business experience, John has been actively involved in MESA (Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association), a CESMII partner.  John served as Chairman of the Board from 2013 – 2015.

In his new role, John will oversee CESMII overall business and operations, continuing to drive CESMII’s technology and smart manufacturing objectives to promote energy and productivity efficient practices to US manufacturers.  “I am excited and honored to be a part of this institute” says Dyck. “We’re in a great position to drive the innovation and the democratization of key technologies and business strategies on the journey towards Smart Manufacturing.” A key aspect of the CEO role will be to drive innovation and foster more strategic collaboration among all of the contributing stakeholders in this Smart Manufacturing ecosystem.

CESMII’s interim CEO Jim Wetzel, says “John is a passionate and proven leader in Smart Manufacturing and bringing together communities and partners for transformation.”  Jim will work closely with John over the next few months to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.    John adds, “I want to thank Jim for his vision and leadership that steered CESMII through its launch phase and has helped set the stage for future success.”
