Collaborative Learning:\nThe workshop emphasized the collective knowledge and experiences of peers\, fostering an environment of shared learning and growth. \n3. Networking Opportunities:\nAttendees connected with industry professionals\, establishing valuable connections that could lead to future collaborations. \nUnique Homework Component:\nBefore the workshop\, participants received a set of homework questions designed to take 10-20 minutes. The true value of this exercise was revealed during the workshop as participants heard the answers from their industry peers. \nWorkshop Agenda:\n12:45 PM – Registration:\nParticipants arrived and registered for the event\, eagerly anticipating the informative sessions ahead. \n1:00 PM – State of AI in Manufacturing Presentation:\nThe workshop kicked off with an insightful presentation on the state of AI in manufacturing\, providing a comprehensive overview of current trends\, challenges\, and opportunities in the industry. \n1:30 PM – Interactive Discussion:\nAn engaging facilitated discussion followed\, where aggregate answers to the homework questions were shared. This interactive session allowed participants to ask questions\, share insights\, and learn from each other’s experiences. \n2:30 PM – Coffee & Networking Break:\nAttendees enjoyed a break with coffee and snacks\, providing an excellent opportunity to network and connect with fellow industry professionals. \n3:00 PM – Peer-Led Presentations Sharing Best Practices:\nBetween 4-7 leading companies presented their best practices developed when evaluating\, applying\, or scaling AI. DESCRIPTION:Penn State University’s Digital Foundry\, located in the heart of New Kensington\, Pennsylvania\, serves as a dynamic innovation and manufacturing hub. Its primary objective is to foster economic development by offering technical support to the manufacturing industry and skills enhancement in digital and smart manufacturing technologies through hands-on learning. As one of CESMII’s seven Smart Manufacturing Innovation Centers\, the Digital Foundry boasts state-of-the-art digital manufacturing hardware\, software\, and industry certifications. Bolstered by a team with extensive industry experience\, the Digital Foundry has been operational since 2022 and is a collaborative effort between Penn State New Kensington and the Economic Growth Connection of Westmoreland. It has established and implemented a robust operational framework providing tailored technical assistance to manufacturers while also offering comprehensive education and workforce training programs spanning from K-16 education sector through current workforce. Through this mission\, the Digital Foundry is working towards the vision of improved lives and strengthened businesses through access to digital technologies in the heart of a rustbelt community it calls home. DESCRIPTION:Innovation Days (May 8-9) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) will bring together both emerging and established companies supporting the clean energy sector as well as DOE program sponsors\, ORNL scientists and engineers\, and MDF innovation partners to discuss clean energy R&D challenges and opportunities. \nThe event will showcase the MDF innovation ecosystem and and provide stakeholders information on how to leverage these assets to accelerate clean energy innovation\, strengthen domestic manufacturing supply chains\, and increase U.S. manufacturing competitiveness. The first day of the event will include presentations\, breakout sessions\, an industry panel and an MDF tour.  On the second day\, the event activities will take place at the Tennessee Manufacturing and Design Enterprise at the University of Tennessee and will include an ecosystem exhibition\, more breakout sessions and other optional facility tours. \n
