CAREERS AT CESMII
The Program Manager is a senior technical manager responsible for overseeing a portfolio of technical projects of various sizes, spanning across a variety of companies and universities, comprising both Research & Development and technology initiatives for the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII).
CESMII’s technology mission is to collaboratively develop and proliferate the adoption of smart manufacturing technologies including sensing, control, modeling, analytics and platforms for small, medium and large manufacturers. This mission is executed through portfolios of small and large R&D, capability and application projects of varying sizes executed by teams composed of CESMII’s members across its regional manufacturing centers.
The Program Manager should be knowledgeable and have a broad range of experience in manufacturing systems and successfully managing multiple technical projects simultaneously. This role is one of two program managers responsible for overseeing and collaborating on a large scope of projects, each with its own project manager, from planning through execution.
The Program Manager coordinates the management of technical projects across project managers to ensure alignment with CESMII’s overall technology mission, as well as ensure consistent, standardized execution and reporting to CESMII HQ and the Department of Energy.
The Program Manager will collaborate with and guide project managers throughout the project life cycle, including proposal preparation, management of project documentation, project time lines and deliverables, preparation of all necessary communications, periodic progress reports, and coordination of project meetings and schedules. The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and scope, and manages issues that need resolution at the portfolio level.
This is a dual role, with the primary responsibility being working closely Business Development to expand the CESMII ecosystem memberships knowledge and application of the Smart Manufacturing (SM) Platform? technologies. The candidate will be expected to execute projects that enable our Ecosystem (Systems integrators, Software Application providers and end Manufacturers) apply and use of the CESMII Smart Manufacturing (SM) Innovation Platform for solving manufacturing use cases. This will include projects for demonstration of the SM Innovation Platform, providing training on the SMIP platform as well as architecting conceptual use cases as needed by the ecosystem participants on their deployment strategies, Innovation projects, demonstration systems, and pilot project application design and general technical subject matter guidance.
The candidate will serve as a key point of contact for CESMII members (Systems Integrators, Software Application providers, end Manufacturers) and SM Innovation Center partners (“SMICs”) that have a dependency on the SMIP?, providing guidance on architecture and implementation, developing tools, code samples and documentation to accelerate projects teams, advising on best practices for connectivity, information modeling, data access, and orchestration of multiple components. The SMICs are national network of partner organizations with strong industry engagement, that act as a collection of highly visible, credible, high value, regional extensions of CESMII. The SMICs are also critical for disseminating CESMII’s service offerings to its national membership base and for providing the “voice of membership” back to CESMII.
Additionally, under the SMIP Engagement Lead aspect of the role, the candidate will provide customer- and member-based feedback to the CESMII Technology team for both internal and external development projects. This includes serving as a technical resource for CESMII and its members, maintaining Cloud infrastructure and components, including building out capabilities for technical communication, tracking issues, gathering feedback or requirements, and sharing of open-source components or reference patterns. The candidate will also play an important role in driving alignment between the platform and the CESMII technology roadmap by helping identify platform capability development focus areas and in creating project portfolios to address technology gaps. The candidate will also contribute to the assessment of innovative emerging technologies related to Smart Manufacturing to guide CESMII’s current and future efforts.
